Your Passenger Rights in the European Union
Flights departing from or arriving into an EU airport (member state) are protected under Regulation EC 261/2004. This means if your flight from a hub like Madrid-Barajas (MAD) or Paris Charles de Gaulle (CDG) is delayed by more than 3 hours, you're potentially entitled to liquidated damages.
The compensation amount varies based on flight distance: €250 for short-haul, €400 for medium-haul, and €600 for long-haul routes.
